Why Staying Visible Over the Festive Season Doesn’t Have to Be Hard
(And Why It’s Time to Ditch the Generic “Merry Christmas” Posts)
Last week I shared abut this topic in my newsletter and the response was so overwhelming, I thought I would delve a little deeper into how you can manage the overwhelm that comes with the festive season and staying visible online! Ultimately wouldn’t it give you peace of mind to know that you could make sales whilst enjoying a break! Or at least setting sales up for January!
It’s mid-December and the festive season is officially here— the crazy season as I like to call it, and (unfortunately) an endless scroll of generic “Merry Christmas” posts filling up our feeds. It’s a time when many business owners face a dilemma:
Should you keep showing up online or take a complete break and disappear until January?
By this time of year, a lot of business owners are exhausted and overwhelmed with all the juggling and in desperate need of a rest.
Now, this might be a bit controversial, but I’m going to say it: completely disappearing over this break isn’t the best move for your business.
I’m not suggesting you forego your much-needed rest, it’s essential you take a break! But what I am saying is that staying visible during this quieter online time doesn’t have to be hard, and it can make a huge difference in keeping you top of mind with your ideal clients.
This blog is a reminder that visibility is a sales tool. And people can’t buy what they can’t see.
Why Festive Visibility Matters
Let’s get one thing straight: Visibility isn’t about flooding people’s feeds with pointless posts. It’s about being there for the right people at the right time, sharing value, and ensuring you remain top of mind for when they’re ready to take action. Perhaps also adding some entertainment, as not everyone loves this time of year.
The festive season is reflective for many. It’s when people pause, reassess, and make plans for the future. This makes it the perfect opportunity for you to connect authentically.
For instance:
For interiors professionals: Families hosting over Christmas might suddenly realise their space isn’t working for them. They’re thinking about redesigns, decluttering, or new layouts. They need you.
For photographers: Business owners planning for 2025 realise they need fresh branding photos or headshots to level up their goals. They need you.
For service providers: People finally acknowledge the one thing holding them back in their business (whether it’s strategy, visibility, or systems) and decide they need help. They need you.
While you’re sipping on mulled wine or enjoying time with your family, your potential clients are scrolling through their phones—searching for inspiration, solutions, and motivation. And guess what? If you’re not showing up, they might find someone else instead.
What Happens If You Disappear?
When you go dark, you risk breaking the connection you’ve worked so hard to build with your audience. Visibility is all about consistency—staying on their radar so they think of you first when they need what you offer.
Here’s what you don’t want to happen:
Your audience scrolling on Christmas Day (41% of Brits plan to shop online that day!) and finding a competitor’s content because you weren’t visible.
Losing the momentum you’ve built all year long.
Missing the chance to connect with those quiet lurkers who’ve been watching your journey and waiting for the right time to reach out. Christmas/New Year could be it!
You’d be surprised how many people are inspired by your journey, even if they never engage with your posts. They’re observing, remembering, and keeping you in mind for when they’re ready to make a move. So, why give them the opportunity to forget you?
Staying Visible Doesn’t Have to Be Hard
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: “But it’s the holidays! I don’t have time to create content!”
Here’s the good news: Staying visible over the festive season doesn’t mean being glued to your phone or spending hours on new content. A little planning and scheduling can go a long way.
Here are 3 easy, impactful posts you can schedule ahead of time to keep showing up—even while you’re enjoying your downtime:
1. Why You Do What You Do
People connect with people. Sharing the “why” behind your work reminds your audience of your passion, values, and purpose. This is a perfect opportunity to create a reel or a heartfelt post that draws them in and reignites their connection with you.
For example: “I started my business because I wanted to [insert your reason]. It hasn’t always been easy, but seeing my clients achieve [specific results] reminds me why I love what I do.”
Bonus Tip: Make it personal and relatable—let your audience see the person behind the brand. Video is key.
Not my best videography but here’s an example of when I did my own one. Click the image to see the reel in full…
2. Who and How You Help
Use this time to highlight the transformation you bring to your clients. Share a client story, a testimonial, or an example of the problems you solve.
For example: “Thinking ahead to 2025? If you’ve been feeling [insert pain point], here’s how I can help you [insert solution].”
This is a great opportunity to share a carousel post or a quick video outlining the tangible results you deliver.
Take a look at these two great examples. I particularly love the hook on the second post!
3. A Fresh Introduction
The holidays often bring new followers to your page, so it’s the perfect time to reintroduce yourself. These introductions should be quarterly as a minimum. But instead of a boring “Hi, I’m [name]” post, make it fun and engaging. Share some lesser-known facts about yourself, like your favorite christmas traditions or a quirky habit. Here’s a great example from @thatrebelhouse.
If you want to write your own post like this, you could use this simple format to help you get started:
“New here? Welcome! I’m [your name], and I help [ideal clients] achieve [specific results]. Here are 3 fun facts about me…”
I did a new one recently and it was work focused but there were things I dont think people would know about it. A subtle nod to past career often gets one of my biggest reactions.
Pro Tip: Pin all these posts to the top of your grid for maximum visibility.
As it’s the school holidays too, why not get your kids involved?? This fab example from @katyleeson was professionally shot, but you could easily recreate it at home if you have your family around over the festive period!
The Problem with Generic “Merry Christmas” Posts
Here’s the thing: Posting a “Merry Christmas” graphic just because everyone else is doing it doesn’t add value to your audience. In fact, it’s likely to get lost in the sea of similar posts flooding their feed. It’s a missed opportunity for that all important storytelling and doesn’t let your brand shine.
Instead, think about what your audience actually wants to see during this time. Maybe it’s a glimpse into your traditions? Everyone is nosy at heart! Or perhaps a reflection on the year or a heartfelt thank-you for their support. Authenticity and value always win over generic and forgettable.
Use the Quiet Time to Stand Out
Here’s a surprising fact - Many business owners step back from social media during the break, which means there’s less noise in the feed. This quieter period is your chance to stand out and capture attention.
It doesn’t mean you have to post daily or chase viral content. A few well-thought-out posts that resonate with your audience can make a big impact.
Remember:
Your visibility isn’t about going viral—it’s about staying relevant.
The festive season is the perfect time to connect authentically with your audience.
Scheduling a few strategic posts now means you can enjoy your break guilt-free.
Visibility is a Tool for 2025
As you reflect on 2024 and plan for the new year, keep this in mind: Visibility is the bridge between your audience and your sales goals.
When done right, it’s not just about being seen—it’s about being remembered. So, before you sign off for the holidays, take a little time to plan and schedule your festive content. Trust me, your January self will thank you.
Final Thoughts
The festive season doesn’t have to be a visibility black hole. By ditching the generic holiday posts and focusing on authentic, value-driven content, you can stay top of mind without breaking a sweat.
So, here’s your festive challenge:
🎁 Post with intention, stay visible, and let the quieter period work in your favour. You never know who’s watching—and who might be ready to take that next step with you in 2025.
🎄 Take a break, enjoy your holiday, but don’t forget to show up (even if it’s just a little). Your future clients are out there, scrolling, reflecting, and looking for someone just like you.
