Things to Consider When You’re Rebranding a Website

It’s a big day for my business today. I finally have a website I am proud of and a new brand video to reflect what I do now and where I now call home. I wanted to share what I’ve learnt during the process as it is no mean feat and whilst I’ve helped clients through this process, it somehow felt different when I did it for my own business.

I am the first to say that if you’re running your own business, having a good website that speaks to your brand is an essential tool in your toolkit. We even wrote a blog about it! Which is perhaps why I’ve felt so embarrassed to share my website when meeting new people or hiring new leads. Not because it was a bad website. But because it didn’t speak to what Your AJency has become.

It was outdated.

It wasn’t the most user-friendly.

And it was hard for potential clients to see what I actually did.

So after months and months of not being happy with the site, I finally put together an amazing team of trusted experts to help me bring Your AJency into 2024 and into the future.

Here’s what I considered when rebranding a website, and how it can really take your business to the next level.

Refreshing a Website is Time-Consuming

I know most small business owners will already know this but rebranding a website (or even building a website) will take hours and hours of otherwise chargeable time. It’s time on your business, rather than in it and sometimes that is challenging when you’re trying to prioritise revenue-earning income. But, I hope you’ll agree that spending the time on rebranding your website so it best serves your audience is well worth the effort and hopefully, the time spent will be earned back through new leads!

Rebranding a Website Takes Expertise

I’m the first to admit that tech is not my strong suit. I’ve massively improved in the years since running my own business, but the thought of creating or rebranding a website is not my idea of fun! Even if I could do the technical side of it by myself though, there are still so many elements that require a range of expertise. So who did I use to help me rebrand my website? My trusted experts, who I have now collaborated with time and time again!

My website imagery is the result of an amazing photoshoot with Victoria Haydn who featured on Moments to Motivate earlier this year. Make sure you read her interview and see how she went from photographing famous footballers to empowering small business owners through stunning brand photography!

As for the video content, there was only one person I wanted to ask and that was Abi from Tailor Made Social. She also appeared on Moments to Motivate earlier this year, but I have worked with Abi on a number of client projects and knew that she would be the best person for the job when it came to getting amazing new video content for my website (and social media too!)

Last, but by no means least, I approached my top choice for anything creative -Tash, from Culpepper & Co . Along with her team, Culpepper helped me bring a new branding style to the website and turned my vision into reality.

I tell you this because rebranding a website is a huge project, and whilst you can do it by yourself, sometimes it really is best to outsource at least parts of a project this size. One of the things that I’ve continued to see more than ever this year is that when you collaborate with the right people, being a solopreneur doesn’t have to be a lonely job! Investing in your business by working with experts is one of the best choices you can make - whether that’s hiring a business coach or mentor, or hiring creative and technical experts to help fill in your knowledge gaps!

Refreshing a Website Isn’t a Forever Fix

Whilst one of the goals of this website rebrand was to future-proof the website, I have also had to accept that having a website is an ongoing process. Whether you’re trying to improve your SEO (see our top SEO tips on this here), or whether you’re just updating contact details or product/service details, a website is never really “finished”. Just as you set time aside for things like marketing strategy, content creation, invoicing and finances when you’re a business owner, it’s best practice to set time aside on a regular basis to make sure your website is still doing what it needs to!

Rebranding My Website Has Reminded Me of How Far Your AJency Has Come

I first launched my website, and the Your AJency blog, when I was living in Chicago during the pandemic. Whilst I had made a few tweaks to the website, it was fundamentally still the same site that I made three years ago. I’ve grown in the last four years, and so has my business. Rebranding the website has forced me to reflect on the services I now offer compared to what I was doing, but also to celebrate the incredible wins that the female founders I work with have achieved over the last four years. I’m so proud of the Your AJency community that I’ve created and I know that this is just the start of the next chapter for the business!

If you haven’t looked around the new website, what’s new?
